What are the responsibilities and job description for the Continuous Improvement Quality Manager position at Champ Metal Fabrication?
Position Summary:
The Continuous Improvement & Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts at the Jamestown facility. This role ensures that all processes align with Champ Industries’ operational goals, driving efficiency, waste reduction, and standardization across the facility. In addition to continuous improvement leadership, the manager oversees all aspects of quality assurance, including inspections, compliance, supplier quality performance, and KPI tracking. This role requires close collaboration with the Plant Manager in Jamestown and alignment with quality efforts at the Winnipeg facility.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing, preferably with hands-on experience in roles such as welding, laser operation, brake operation, or painting.
Key Responsibilities:
Continuous Improvement & Lean Leadership:
- Lead, develop, and implement Lean and continuous improvement initiatives within the Jamestown facility.
- Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and waste within manufacturing and operational processes.
- Utilize data-driven methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen) to drive improvements.
- Ensure all improvement efforts align with overall company objectives and manufacturing best practices.
- Develop and maintain tracking systems to measure the impact of process improvements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement at all levels of the organization.
Quality Assurance & Control:
- Oversee all quality control functions, including inspection processes, compliance, and documentation.
- Manage and support the quality assurance team to ensure daily operational effectiveness.
- Monitor production quality, investigate defects or process failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain monthly and annual supplier quality scorecards.
- Ensure adherence to internal and external quality standards, working closely with the Winnipeg facility to standardize practices.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality and efficiency.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related issues, collaborating with production and engineering teams to drive improvements.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and process standards are met.
- Align quality and improvement initiatives with strategic goals set by senior management.
- Provide coaching and leadership to staff, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Strong manufacturing background required – hands-on experience in production roles (e.g., welding, laser operation, brake operation, painting, etc.) preferred.
- 5 years of experience in quality management, Lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement leadership.
- Experience with Lean methodologies (5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc.) and their application in a manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated ability to implement process improvements and drive measurable results.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience with supplier quality management and KPI tracking preferred.
- Proficiency in data analysis and process monitoring tools.

- Measurable improvements in manufacturing cycle times and throughput.

- Reduction in defect rates and non-conformance incidents.

Work Environment:
- Manufacturing floor and office environment with regular interaction with production staff.
- Requires hands-on problem-solving in production areas.
- Travel to the Winnipeg facility may be required periodically.
