Summary
The Youth Program Assistant Director assists the Program Director in planning and leading activities for the children, youths and teams in the summer, afterschool and days-out programs.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to plan and lead recreational activities for children at assigned age level
- Previous camp or afterschool leadership experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Park District staff and the general public
- Positive can do team attitude
Supervision
The Youth Program Assistant Director reports directly to the Program Director. The Youth Program Assistant Director helps supervise Leaders and Volunteers at their assigned site.

Training Can be obtained through Champaign Park District
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification from American Heart Association or from an accredited agency
- Heads Up Concussion through Center for Disease Control
- Facility training
- Anyone who will be driving a Champaign Park District vehicle will need to complete and pass a driving test from one of our certified Champaign Park District trainers
- Mandated reporter certification
- Harassment Prevention Training
Essential Functions
- Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
- Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing the day camp program and activities
- Train, supervise, discipline, and assist in evaluating day camp leaders and day camp volunteers
- Maintain good public relations with participants, parents, other staff members, and the general public
- Maintain an accurate budget of all program expenses
- Responsible for the purchase, maintenance, and safe proper use of program supplies
- Maintain the program environment in a clean and orderly fashion
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for participants
- Responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with the Program Coordinator/Manager regarding all situations concerning the program, participants, and staff
- Communicate effectively with staff, participants, and parents
- Maintain records of program operations including participant files, incident/accident reports, attendance, and sign-out sheets
- Responsible for parent newsletters, weekly schedules, payroll, required reports, and requests
- Other duties as assigned
