Champlain Valley School District is seeking a compassionate, organized, and equity-centered professional to coordinate our middle school mentoring program at Shelburne Community School. This full-time role (1.0 FTE) supports approximately 65 mentor-mentee pairs, fostering one-to-one relationships between students and caring adult volunteers.
The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to positive youth development and will guide all aspects of a school-based mentoring program aligned with the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring (5th edition). This includes a strong focus on relationship quality, youth voice, safety, training, and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, and train adult volunteer mentors in accordance with nationally recognized mentoring standards.
- Collaborate with school counselors and staff to identify students who would benefit from mentoring support.
- Match students with appropriate mentors using a strengths-based approach.
- Facilitate structured onboarding for both mentors and mentees, including caregiver engagement where appropriate.
- Provide ongoing support, supervision, and coaching to mentor pairs to ensure long-term success and positive outcomes.
- Develop inclusive and engaging shared experiences for mentoring pairs, aligned with student interests and developmental needs.
- Track data related to match length, engagement, and feedback to inform program improvement and meet ethical standards of care.
- Cultivate a mentoring environment that is welcoming, culturally responsive, and inclusive of all student identities.
- Uphold mentoring program values, including the ethical principle of "do no harm," and foster a sense of belonging for all participants.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, social work, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating programs and working with youth in school or community-based settings.
- Strong understanding of resiliency theory and developmental assets.
- Experience recruiting and supporting volunteers.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with families, school personnel, and community members.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, including use of digital tools and data tracking systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring and other evidence-based mentoring frameworks.
- Commitment to equity, student belonging, and trauma-informed practices.
- Experience in fostering inclusive environments for youth from refugee, immigrant, LGBTQ , and low-income communities.
