ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is a leading provider of alternative and special education programs. We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Instructor to join our team in a Life Skills Classroom.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will plan, prepare, and implement instructional processes for Post-Secondary students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). This includes delivering instruction, implementing curriculum materials, and developing daily lesson plans that meet state and school requirements as well as the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the learner.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a collaborative environment for students, parents, center staff, and administrative personnel.
- Create a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful classroom environment with a focus on social development and group responsibility.
- Train students in basic life skills such as navigating professional working relationships, understanding appropriate work behavior, and other skills related to performing specific job tasks.
- Support the assessment and development of student strengths and needs as it relates to interpersonal and social skills, independent living skills, etc.
- Assist students in developing job readiness skills and personal qualities to prepare them for the job market.
- Guide students through the post-secondary planning process, providing direct interaction with students on their academic and career goals.
- Motivate students to meet their academic goals and assist in locating resources regarding financial assistance for post-secondary education.
- Implement established school-wide and classroom Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) programs, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequences.
- Record student progress/records, maintain student files, and prepare reports on students and activities.
- Provide direct subject-based instruction and/or work in a team environment to collaboratively and/or co-teach curricular subjects as required in IEP.
- Accommodate or modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction for students as well as staff.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to the diverse needs and interests of students.
- Act as case manager to special education students which may include updating IEPs and goals.
- Prepare daily lesson plans and materials for assigned class.
- Maintain the classroom, furniture, and supplies in a neat and orderly condition according to procedure.
- Keep up to date with research-based practices and developments in subject area.
- Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
