Summary:
The Finishing Department Lead is a working position that assists with nonsupervisory work for functional work areas. Assists Production Supervisor with training, performance evaluations and department metrics. Supports the Production Supervisor and other team management to achieve defined goals of productivity, quality, delivery, lean and safety.
Hours: Monday - Thursday, 5:00am to 3:30pm
Requirements:Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Engage employees to create a positive team atmosphere. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Participate in screening and onboarding process of new employees.
- Help implement and execute training programs for all new hires and temporary staff (i.e., work instructions, safety rules and guidelines, policies, and procedures). Coordinate position rotations and cross training with other Leads and Production Supervisor.
- Works with Production Supervisor to plan, monitor and review workflow daily to ensure production schedules are met. Plan and assign work. Communicate goals with staff daily.
- May assist in managing employee time off and labor edits.
- Prepares work for next assignments (i.e., parts are present, tooling is ready, workstation is prepared, necessary materials are present, documentation is present (as practical).
- Consistently provides instruction to employees to develop their skill set.
- Gives timely feedback on performance; reinforces efforts, progress, and coaches as necessary.
- Address rule violations or report to the Production Supervisor for follow-up action, as necessary.
- Assist Production Supervisor with performance evaluations and reviews by providing feedback.
- Communicate with other Department leads when shift transitions.
- Ensure employees comply with work instructions, standardized work, policies, and procedures.
- Help monitor and communicate departmental metrics such as efficiency, defects, scrap, and lost time, etc.
- Monitor general quality of workpieces that are produced in functional areas. Communicates non-conformance with Production Supervisor, engineering, and quality.
- Prioritize work and expedites to ensure productivity goals are met and work orders are completed in a timely manner. Strives to increase productivity and on time delivery.
- Works with maintenance and Production Supervisor to coordinate repairs and TPM/PM schedules and operator p.m.’s.
- Lead department meetings, participate in huddle meetings and attend operations meetings.
- Assist with Lean initiatives eliminating wastes.
- Help troubleshoot and provide assistance to develop Root Cause Corrective Action for discrepant product. Assistance with resolving Corrective Action System Requests and Preventative Action Requests.
- May assist with the coordination and monitoring of New Product Introduction activities and rework.
- Ensure employees comply with safety rules including Personal Protective Equipment and OSHA standards. Address safety issues with employee or Production Supervisor.
- Ensure employees maintain an organized, clean, and safe environment and maintains 5S standards.
