Job Title: Executive Director, Theater

Reports To: Board of Directors

Location: Chandler Youth Theatre. Chandler, Arizona

Job Summary: The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of Chandler Youth Theatre],responsible for the overall management, direction, and success of the theater. The ED will lead the organization in fulfilling its mission, achieving its goals, and ensuring its financial stability. The role requires strategic leadership, strong management skills, and a passion for the performing arts. The Executive Director works closely with the Artistic Director and the Board of Directors to create a vision for the theater's future and implement that vision in alignment with the organization's values and mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement the theater's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, patrons, community leaders, and industry professionals.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the theater, representing its interests and advocating for its mission in the community and beyond.
  • Financial Management:
  • Oversee the theater’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure financial sustainability by developing and implementing fundraising strategies, including donor cultivation, grant writing, sponsorships, and special events.
  • Manage the organization's financial resources effectively, ensuring that funds are allocated in accordance with the theater's priorities and mission.
  • Operational Management:
  • Lead and manage the theater’s administrative and operational staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the theater, including facilities management, human resources, and IT systems.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures that support the theater’s operations and goals.
  • Artistic Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Artistic Director to support the artistic vision and programming of the theater.
  • Ensure that artistic initiatives align with the theater's mission and contribute to its growth and reputation.
  • Balance artistic ambitions with financial realities, ensuring that programming is both innovative and sustainable.
  • Community Engagement:
  • Develop and implement community outreach and education programs that enhance the theater's role in the community.
  • Foster relationships with schools, cultural organizations, and other community groups to broaden the theater's audience and impact.
  • Ensure that the theater is accessible and welcoming to a diverse range of audiences.
  • Board Relations:
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the theater's staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Provide the Board with regular updates on the theater’s operations, finances, and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist the Board in its governance responsibilities, including board development and training.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of management experience in a performing arts organization, with a strong background in fundraising, financial management, and strategic planning.
  • Skills:
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing complex budgets.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Passion for the arts and a deep understanding of the challenges facing nonprofit arts organizations.
