BIG PICTURE:
We are looking for a freelance Casting Associate whose primary job is to find background actors in the Los Angeles area that can deliver high level performances for our scripted digital shorts. This is a high volume, fast-paced, quick turnaround casting environment. This individual will find background actors through posting breakdowns on Breakdown Services, LA Casting, and by contacting Agencies in LA to find the best possible talent. The Casting Associate will request audition tapes, review self tape submissions, and present recommendations to the Casting Manager. The ideal candidate has already established a profile on LA Casting and Breakdown Services and is experienced in communicating with agencies. An experienced Casting Associate with actionable resources, is crucial to ensuring actors are cast that can create credible on-screen characters; essential to the success of our videos.
HOW YOU’LL SPEND YOUR TIME:
- Utilizing casting platforms or personal network resources to find talent with a diverse range that can deliver credible emotional performances.
- Requesting and reviewing audition tapes from actors applying for each role.
- Choosing the best possible talent and then presenting recommendations to the Casting Manager.
- Providing last minute casting solutions in case there are changes in the script, shooting schedule, or actor availability.
- Applying knowledge of union/non-union rules and relevant laws related to shooting, which inform decisions regarding casting, including the hiring of child talent.
- Maintaining strong relationships with the local acting community and talent agencies throughout LA.
- Facilitating the occasional casting call event.
- Any other duties to support the overall casting process and the mission of the organization.
WHAT YOU HAVE:
- A minimum of 2 years working as a casting associate in low-budget television, indie film or digital shorts Understanding of the scripted casting process, and ability to work independently, tracking their own deadlines and delivering on time.
- Current network of actors and agents.
- Knowledge of relevant rules and laws related to shooting, including union and non-union guidelines, as well as child labor regulations.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
- Skilled at building relationships and negotiating effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Adept at working effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high volume, demanding environment.
- Familiarity in project management tools including Google Workspace and Monday.com
- Able to communicate concisely by email and adept at responding quickly to messages in chat.
- Ability to work after hours and on weekends and come up with solutions when emergencies arise.
WHO OVERSEES YOU:
The Casting Associate will report directly to the Casting Manager.

WHERE IT ALL GOES DOWN:
On location in Burbank, CA.
