Charlestown is a beautiful 110-acre continuing care retirement community located just minutes from Baltimore in the charming neighborhood of Catonsville, Maryland. We are hiring a Volunteer/Community Resources Coordinator to bring their passion for resident engagement to our campus. This position will act as a resource for residents in the creation of activities and organizations within the community as well as the overall management of the Volunteer Program.
How you will make an impact:
  • Partnering with residents in the planning, promoting, and coordinating of activities and events in the community.
  • Performing preliminary work for monthly calendars.
  • Facilitating communication regarding activities among residents and staff.
  • Creating flyers for events; writing articles for community bulletins.
  • Arranging audio/visual equipment with vendors for presentations.
  • Serving as the information center for resident inquiries.
In additional to the CR responsibilities the coordinator will be responsible for:
  • Recruiting, selecting, supervising, and evaluating volunteers (internal and external) and unpaid interns to participate in social programming in the community
  • Performing all human resources functions with regards to volunteers’ service, including implementation of hiring procedures, orientation and evaluation
  • Developing, conducting and documenting training programs for volunteers, specific to their needs and experiences
  • Participating in the development and coordination of social programming for skilled nursing and assisted living residents by working with the Activities Program to plan programs to stimulate a warm, social and home-like atmosphere for residents
  • Maintaining high visibility at all levels of the community to:
    • Continuously promote volunteer opportunities
    • Transfer successful programs across the continuum of care
    • Create new programs from volunteer interests
    • Meet resident needs
  • Creating volunteer recognition programs to acknowledge volunteer support
  • Expanding volunteer base by creating new partnerships and developing relationships with local community associations, service organizations and educational institutions
  • Developing opportunities for marketing exposure (community fairs, parades, educational forums) to promote positive image of the community and recruit external volunteers

What you will need:
  • High school diploma (GED) is required. Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years service-related experience (volunteer or public service).
  • Experience with senior population preferred.
