What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Seasonal Mosquito Control Technician position at Charlotte County BCC?
Performs seasonal, routine field inspection, larvaciding, and adulticiding work in the control of mosquitoes and aquatic weeds. May be assigned to work with a Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control Specialist to learn the procedures for larvaciding and adulticiding work.
This position is Monday-Friday starting at dusk.

- Performs adulticide control work.
- Accompanies an assigned Pest Management Specialist during daily operations; will become familiar with entomological survey techniques.
- Drives spray truck and operates spray equipment, as required.
- Performs maintenance and service of equipment, as required.
- Performs aquatic weed control work, as required.
Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and/or Certificates: Possession and maintenance of a State of Florida driver's license.

- Familiarity with mosquito breeding habitats.
- Ability to identify characteristics of the primary nuisance mosquitoes, make inspections and ascertain facts through investigations.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
- Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
- Ability to perform simple mechanical repairs.
- Ability to operate a spray vehicle and to operate water borne spray equipment.
- Ability to operate stakebed, tractor/trailer, aircraft truck/ trailer, forklift, and chain saw.
- Ability to work in sustained positions, around slippery and irregular surfaces and around moving objects, and to walk long distances into woodland and marshland environments, carrying by hand the equipment and pesticides necessary to treat mosquitoes and aquatic vegetation.
- Ability to wear, for extended periods of time, required safety equipment such as hard hat, rubber boots, rubber gloves, leather gloves, hearing protection, life vest, safety glasses/ face shield, snake chaps, orange safety vest, rubber apron, chemical resistant coveralls and vehicle seat belt.
- Good written and oral communication skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Working Conditions: Work is exposed to outdoor weather conditions or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights, and/or dust.
Risk/Safety Conditions: The position requires some exposure to risk related to physical and/or mental health and safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, assault and battery, communicable disease, etc.).
Physical Activities: Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception, climbing. Frequent lifting of 10 to 25 pounds; occasional lifting over 50 lbs.
