Primary Objective
A Cochlear Implant Audiologist provides diagnostic and rehabilitation services, specifically within subspecialty areas of audiology, which help increase CEENTA patients overall quality of life through the sense of hearing.
Essential Functions
Performs basic diagnostic procedures including knowledge of and ability to execute basic diagnostic tests for pediatric & adult populations including, but not limited to, otoscopy, comprehensive audiometry evaluations, immittance testing, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) testing
Ability to analyze results from advanced diagnostic procedures (ABR, VNG, VEMP, ECochG, etc)
Exercises an in-depth knowledge of current non-traditional amplification options and implant technologies, candidacy, programming, and maintenance
Specializes in evaluating pediatric and adult candidacy for non-traditional amplification options (bone-anchored devices and cochlear implants)
Provides pre- and post-surgical audiological assessment, education, and counseling regarding hearing loss, communication strategies, and methods of intervention
Conducts implant programming, services, and maintenance of implant hardware and software
Displays extensive knowledge of current amplification/technology and implements best-fitting practices, verification, and validation procedures
Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and applies the knowledge to meet age-specific differences and needs of patients throughout all aspects of audiology
Recommends and reviews specialized aural rehabilitation training and resources
Measures and interprets neurophysiologic responses during inter-operative monitoring
Facilitates appropriate referrals for all populations served including internal physicians & outside specialists
Participates in ongoing management and communication with outside referral organizations pertaining to future treatment and care of patients
Ability to succeed in fast-paced environment and prioritize numerous duties within strict deadlines
Maintains and completes all appropriate documentation within Epic and required clinical forms, which includes letters of medical necessity & educational accommodation letters, in timely manner
Ability to work closely with all CEENTA providers and staff members to create a rewarding patient experience
Contributes effectively within a team setting with frequent communication amongst colleagues & between surgeons
Participates in routine all CI team meetings (including physicians)
Provides education and updates to the rest of the audiology department regarding updated guidelines, protocols, and referral processes

Training Period
The training period will cover training with Epic, CEENTAs policies and procedures, as well as hearing aid and cochlear implant manufacturer software and devices. Depending on training availability and candidates previous experience, training will be approximately one month.

The Cochlear Implant Audiologist will provide specialized diagnostic hearing testing and hearing rehabilitation to enhance the quality of life for CEENTAs patient population, specifically amongst the subspecialty cochlear implant population.
Education
Masters in Audiology or preferred Au.D.
Experience
Required clinical experience for obtaining Masters in Audiology or Au.D.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- North Carolina/South Carolina Audiology License
- ASHA Clinical Competency Certification preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Audiologist reports to the Director, Audiology and Imaging. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Full-time status, Monday-Friday 40 hours per week.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to spend approximately 20% of the workday standing and walking with guiding patients to and from waiting areas and doctor exam rooms and standing while using the Audiology lab area.
- Ability to spend approximately 80% of the workday sitting for periods of time while in patient appointments and completing admin work.
- Ability to occasionally provide help transporting patients in wheelchairs to appropriate Audiology areas with the ability to push at least 140 lbs.

A Typical Day in the Position
Using the Epic Audiology schedule for a daily reference, the Audiologist completes scheduled patient appointments. These appointments consist of a rotating mixture of diagnostic testing and providing rehabilitation services throughout the day. The Audiologist also maintains needed daily responsibilities as setting up for needed appointments, answering emails/voicemails, completing amplification duties and completing additional unscheduled appointments when needed.
