For over a century Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company has been manufacturing pipe and fittings exclusively in the USA, employing 1,400 loyal, hard-working Americans. Today we manufacture the industry's broadest range of standard and specialty DWV products, including cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings.
Charlotte Pipe is headquartered in Charlotte, NC, and has seven plant locations across the United States.
POSITION TITLE: Regional Sales Manager

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
Drive new business development through industry/territory knowledge, sales events, vendor events, research and networking. As potential customers are identified, conduct customer research, including appropriate background checks.
Listen to the customer to identify the customer’s needs through consultative selling and sell the pertinent solutions. The ability to probe, question, and gather specific information about the customer’s needs and track the information for short- and long-term projects is essential. This critical information must be shared with various appropriate team members at Charlotte Pipe.
Participate in customer functions /meetings. This may include marketing meetings, meetings with senior management and meetings with product merchants, buyers and merchandise managers. Customer charity events are an important function for Charlotte Pipe and participation through attendance and financial support is expected.
Pursue and maintain key relationships at every level of the organization, from the sales associate and persons responsible for inventory management to the most senior decision makers within the organization.
Frequently review and address customer profitability issues by examining margins and opportunities to increase margins.
Technical competency is required to understand numerous product applications to be an effective problem solver for customer’s issues. Must maintain the highest level of industry and product expertise. He/she will directly supervise Rep agencies, trainers, product knowledge information managers or other indirect positions that may or may not be considered management as it pertains to the account.
Keep abreast of competitive activities (including pricing) and Charlotte Pipe advantages vs. competing lines.
Direct product simplification and standardization to eliminate unprofitable items from sales line.
Submit calculate input into the forecasting and sales and operations planning task.
Develop and execute profitable business plans for managing accounts. Team with sales team members and key operations team members to communicate account plans and relevant pricing strategies.
A thorough understanding of production capabilities, manufacturing, packaging and shipping operations, raw materials, costs, market conditions and competitive products is required to provide accurate information for specific customer requests. This knowledge is also required for examining possibilities of reducing costs and allowing process improvements for both Charlotte Pipe and its customers.
Comprehension of Charlotte Pipe’s product line offering including sizes, lengths, specifications, capabilities and raw material make-up is a must.
Proactively monitor issues regarding fill rates, service levels, transportation and/or inventory availability.
Research pricing trends in the marketplace .
Plan and participate in trade shows. This includes planning marketing materials, providing sample products and participating in other related activities to support the show sales.
Maintain a close relationship with accounts payable/receivable on the issues of credit, debit and rebate issues. The National Account Manager – Retail Division will serve as a liaison for the purpose of making sure customers are current on their balances.
Provide input regarding retail header boards, bin tags and signage to the Marketing Department.
Work closely with Rep agencies to motivate and improve performance, this includes planning and conducting Rep reviews.
Serve as a mentor, developing, growing and maintaining Charlotte Pipe associates’ experiences, capabilities, morale and job satisfaction.
Actively participate in team projects, many cross functional, to address issues and make presentations on a variety of topics related to Charlotte Pipe and the industry.
Effectively manage travel and expense budgets.
Provide accurate, timely, and professionally written, statistical reports to both internal and external customers. It is important that he/she has the ability to clearly communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. The ability to make compelling presentations to various audiences, either written or verbal is essential.
Analyze individual, team and program/account performance on a regular basis, perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
He/she must have a full comprehension of product liability, recommendations and applications to be able to expertly handle product complaints.
Work with marketing and production associates to develop or address barcoding, packaging and labeling projects.

Qualifications:

Strong technical skills which include Microsoft products and a basic working knowledge of EDI and AHC.

Education

A bachelor’s degree is required.
