EHS Position Summary:
The primary role of the EHS Specialist is defining and managing the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements (internal & external) for their areas of responsibility. They serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for these requirements and are responsible for analyzing and identifying potential EHS hazards and collaborating with operational and EHS supervision to help design and implement programs to prevent injury or illness to workers or damage to the environment. They are also responsible for providing EHS leadership and support to these areas by facilitating and driving improvement of all EHS programs and policies, as well as worker’s compensation claim management and federal, state, and local regulatory compliance. The EHS Specialist is also responsible for establishing a path to zero by developing, maintaining, and improving the employee safety culture within their area of responsibility and providing support as needed to the rest of the EHS team.

As an EHS Specialist your responsibilities will be:
- Manage and collaborate with a diverse group of business leaders and front-line employees
- Understand KPI’s at respective business units and provide leadership to continually improve performance
- Develop and implement EHS strategies that align with corporate objectives to reduce/mitigate operational risk
- Maintain accurate daily, weekly, monthly and YTD metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems
- Influence, drive and assist business unit in achieving designated safety metrics
- Conduct routine EHS observations, inspections, audits and risk assessments
- Identification and elimination of workplace hazards
- Identification and management of hazardous chemicals
- Development, maintenance and implementation of regulatory compliance programs
- Research and understanding of applicable Safety and Environmental regulations – provide necessary technical expertise
- Identification and abatement of potential sources of environmental pollution
- Complete all required regulatory documentation (i.e. recordkeeping, reporting, permitting, etc) in accordance with regulatory deadlines
- Training and assisting others to complete designated safety and compliance responsibilities (audits, following safety rules, required training, etc)
- Communicating (individual, group and public), coordinating or administering EHS training as needed (new hire orientation, contractor communication, any other corporate or regulatory required training)
- Responding to and investigating all reported incidents – driving closure of all corrective/preventative actions
- Manage all workplace injuries in accordance with corporate worker’s compensation claim management practices and transitional return to work program
- Perform other duties, as assigned, in support of the corporate and business unit’s EHS strategic plan.
- Comply with all Product Safety Standards, Safety Standards, and Standard Operating Procedures.
A strong EHS Specialist will possess:
- Completion of a Post Secondary Degree in a related field with 1 years of manufacturing EHS experience OR 4 years of dedicated manufacturing EHS experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing regulations and Management Systems. Experience with Process Safety and Risk Management programs.
- Communicates effectively with company personnel on all levels.
- Experience leading teams in the improvement of business processes and operational performance.
- Exceptional organizational skills / high consideration for detail
- Ability to be successful when working independently
