Job Description
Tyco Fire Protection Products (TFPP) is currently recruiting an EHS Lab Specialist II to work at our Marinette, WI site. The Lab Specialist is responsible for supporting Tyco’s efforts for the Quality Assurance of the foam raw chemicals and final products, Environmental Lab Requirements, RCRA Waste Requirements (manifesting, inspections, and profiling), system sampling, sewer sampling requirements at both campuses. This position will report directly to the site Environmental Supervisor. This position will be responsible for managing the day to day regulatory compliance for POTW, WPDES and RCRA and laboratory operation. This position will be responsible to complete minor maintenance to lab equipment and water treatment equipment. Additionally, the position also prepares purchase requisitions and approval of invoices for procuring water treatment chemicals, environmental lab supplies, and other environmental supplies.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure effluent water compliance meets permit limits.
- Initiate, lead and sustain Zero Harm programs.
- Institute water, waste and other recycling programs.
- Proper handling, use and storage of all treatment process chemicals and waste materials
- Knowledge of QA ISO-requirements including ISO 9001 compliance.
- Maintain compliance for WPDES and POTW for two campuses.
- Manage Laboratory to maintain and analyze samples for WDNR Registration and QA Product requirements
- Inspect satellite waste accumulation areas and waste accumulation areas.
- Manage the proper disposal, manifesting and profiling of solid waste, universal waste, special waste and waste water. This includes RCRA hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal wastes from two different campuses.
- Maintain inventories of PPE, chemicals and other environmental consumables required to operate all systems.
- Utilize and manage outside contractors to keep systems running at an optimum level.
- Be a continuous improvement champion by setting and achieving goals.
- Successfully complete specific training located on the Marinette Operations Training Matrix.
- Work with subcontractors and safety officers to maintain a safe project environment.
- Maintain performance of the laboratory, wastewater and groundwater treatment systems and make recommendations for continuous improvements.
- Tasks as assigned by Environmental Supervisor and EHS Manager
- Mentors all Operators and Lab Technicians.
- Prepares purchase requisitions and approval of invoices via SAP.
- Prepare environmental compliance reports including DMR, POTW Pretreatment, Annual Hazardous Waste, and compliance related reports.
- Update Laboratory Procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Four (4) Year degree in chemistry with five (5) years’ experience preferred, but related technical field will be considered with five (5) years of experience preferred. Candidates with a Two (2) year degree and fifteen (15) or more years of experience in related field in lieu of a degree.
- Environmental Laboratory experience at a WDNR Registered or Certified Lab is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Licensed Waste Water Treatment Operator (Laboratory), 40-hr HAZWOPER, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Access), SAP, ability to read engineering drawings and blue prints, and ability to read, understand and use Operations and Maintenance Manuals preferred.
- Valid driver license is required. Must be able to lift, push/pull weights of 40lbs. Physical activities include bending, lifting, squatting, power tools, hand tools, pressure washer, and climbing up and down stairs and ladders. This position may require large periods of time where the operator is walking from piece of equipment to piece of equipment.
