Charter Wire, a division of Charter Manufacturing, is hiring a Quality Manager for the Milwaukee WI location. This is a first shift, onsite role at a 24/5 operation with occasional off-shift meetings.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, we are seeking a dynamic Quality Manager to join our Charter Wire team. In this role, you will lead a team of five professionals across three shifts and oversee the quality management system. You will drive initiatives to ensure top-tier quality performance and will manage and maintain systems to deliver products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations, ensuring compliance with IATF standards.
You will spearhead efforts to promote a “quality at the source” approach for product and process quality, working closely with other business functions to foster a team-based approach to problem-solving and process improvement. This role also involves acting as a key contact for customers in new product development, problem-solving, and issue resolution.
Travel: Up to 5% travel within North America with potential of occasional global travel to customers.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
Quality Systems Management:
- Manage the design, implementation, and continuing control of the company quality systems requirements for the site
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality system standards
- Formulate and implement written procedures associated with the quality system or quality-related processes
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Quality Team and laboratory, ensuring compliance with requirements and procedures
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory environment
- Manage internal and external auditing programs, including customer and supplier audits, to ensure quality system knowledge, preparedness, and effectiveness
- Define the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Manage the evaluation and qualification processes of Supplier Quality Systems and purchased products or services to support company quality objectives
- Identify and define the inspection and measuring criteria for equipment, material, and product
- Manage communication of quality issues to the business and coordinate teams to work on resolution
- Facilitate and lead 8D & 3D corrective actions
- Communicate plans, actions, and controls to customers or sales as appropriate
- Set goals and track progress to Time-to-Closure for customer concerns and INCARs
- Lead and manage projects/teams to improve operations in areas like scrap causes, customer complaints, and field failures
- Drive continual improvement of our quality-related metrics
- Define Critical to Quality criteria
- Assist in managing policies and procedures
- Provide resources in the auditing and corrective action processes
- Lead laboratory investigations for claims and customer-requested investigations
- Coordinate responses to customer corrective actions in a timely fashion
- Act as a technical resource for operations and represent the company during customer visits and audits
- Ensure effective systems are in place and work with suppliers to improve overall product quality
- Develop and lead the technical training of employees
- Collaborate with various site departments to facilitate and lead regular site management review meetings
- Follow Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System procedures and requirements
- Ability to meet the essential job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical degree
- Five plus years’ experience in a quality function or related field
- Supervisory experience
- Certified QMS Auditor
- Demonstrated success in maintaining and applying IATF or other automotive quality system requirements
- Experience in automotive parts manufacturing especially, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Experienced team leader with demonstrated success in problem-solving and the ability to influence and motivate others
- Proven decision-making skills which include strong quantitative and analytical skills, strong statistical, mathematical background, and computer literacy
- Ability to read and interpret part prints and GD&T
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
- ASQC - Certified Quality Engineer or Manager
- Quality Lab experience
- Experience with management of work teams
- Trained in Six Sigma, Lean Principles, or other process improvement techniques
- Experience with ISO 14000
