Responsibilities
- Assist patients with the completion of necessary paperwork and ensure accurate data entry into the electronic health record system (Epic).
- Conduct preliminary tests including measuring vital signs and performing basic vision assessments.
- Provide patient care by preparing examination rooms, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining an aseptic environment.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and optical products available in the practice.
- Support the optometrist during eye examinations by documenting findings and assisting with procedures as needed.
- Handle medical billing and coding tasks accurately, ensuring compliance with medical terminology standards.
- Manage inventory of optical products and supplies, utilizing retail math skills for effective stock management.
- Address patient inquiries regarding services, appointments, and insurance coverage to enhance patient satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Optometric Assistant or in a similar healthcare role is preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical coding, billing practices, and medical terminology is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide excellent patient care.
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques to maintain a safe clinical environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
