Description

The Chatham County Probate Court is seeking a Record Room Assistant to perform clerical duties, manage records, and provide customer service in a high-volume legal environment, requiring a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of clerical experience. Apply now for consideration.

Examples of Duties

In this role you

  • Perform detailed clerical work for accepting and processing research and record requests, intaking license applications, and/or processing probate and guardianship filings.
  • Use your communication and customer service skills as you interact with the public in challenging and emotional circumstances.
  • Identify each customer's issue or problem and either assist in solving the problem or finding the proper Probate staff to address the issue.
  • Interact with the public in person, on the phone, and by email.
  • Work in a high-volume Court responsible for legal matters that impact upon minors, incapacitated adults, mental health patients, and families.
  • Answer correspondence, input data, prepare documents, certify copies, and work on a team including judges.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, and
  • At least two (2) years of general clerical experience, including typing and filing; or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be experienced in learning new computer programs, Microsoft Office, and a 10-key calculator.
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 25 words per minute. Selected candidates will be required to complete keyboarding and clerical testing during the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with email, database management programs, scanners, and printers.


During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.


In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.


Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
