Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting families and making a positive difference in children's lives? We're looking for a compassionate, responsible, and observant individual to join our team as a Visitation Supervisor. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring safe, structured, and supportive environments for children to maintain relationships with their family members during supervised visits. The Visitation Supervisor will demonstrate an understanding of child development, domestic violence and its impact on children, and the dynamics of separation and divorce. Additionally, s/he will have good communication and writing skills, good observation and behavior documentation skills, multicultural awareness, and the ability to maintain an independent role and set boundaries. Visitation Supervisors work under the supervision of the Project Director.

Essential Functions

  • Monitors visits between parents and children;
  • Informs parents if they are to provide supplies, snacks or meals, if deemed appropriate;
  • Facilitates visitation, if necessary;
  • Intervenes if visitation guidelines are not followed;
  • Terminates the visit if it is not deemed appropriate or parties involved have demonstrated improper conduct;
  • Clearly defines the rules of visitation with all parties involved and notify referring agency if rules are violated;
  • Maintains weekly updates with supervisor regarding all cases;
  • Documents parent-child interaction;
  • Maintains client records;
  • Supervises movement of the child between residential and non-residential parents during exchanges;
  • Protects the confidentiality of children, parents, and staff;
  • Assists families with community referrals;
  • Assists with distribution of parent satisfaction surveys;
  • Attends all domestic violence trainings as required;
  • Participates in trainings related to domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, the justice system, and cultural issues;
  • Attends monthly staff meetings for case review and training purposes;
  • Participates in case management as requested;
  • Ensure all toys are cleaned at the end of every shift and
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a directly related area under the direct weekly supervision of a person holding a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or a related field. Ability to speak and read Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and stalking;
  • General knowledge of civil and criminal legal proceedings related to domestic violence and sexual assault;
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills in delivering services to victims and an understanding and acceptance of regional psychosocial, cultural, religious and economic differences;
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships and clear boundaries with clients, offenders, and professionals;
  • Ability to maintains dignity and self-control in stressful situations and objectivity about personal strengths and limitations;
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 20 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking, hearing, using hands to finger, handling or feeling, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, smelling, pushing, pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements and requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally and to convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and may occasionally require working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements
  • Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources;
  • Must undergo a criminal background check and
  • Work schedule must be flexible and may include nights and weekends.

All employees will be trained by community partners, and are required to attend North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NC CADV), North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NC CASA), North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS), Legal Aid, and the North Carolina Office on Violence Against Women trainings as offered.
