Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion & Title IX Coordinator


Chatham University's Department of Student Affairs is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion & Title IX Coordinator. This role is a full-time, in-person position.

Position Summary:
The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) & Title IX Coordinator plays an integral role in providing equity-minded guidance and support to undergraduates and graduate students at Chatham University. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs and serves as a key leader in the division of student affairs.

The Assistant Dean will develop and implement diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives and strategies intended to advance academic excellence within an inclusive, diverse, mutually respectful, and equitable university environment. As Title IX Coordinator, the Assistant Dean is also responsible for ensuring compliance with Title IX regulations, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, gender, and gender identity in education programs or activities.



Duties and Responsibilities:
DEI Initiatives:
• Is a visible and accessible advocate for the promotion of DEI in all aspects of university life at Chatham.
• Upholds Chatham's values of equity mindedness, intersectionality, trauma informed,
expansive inclusivity, and restoration.
• Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster Chatham's equity goals.
• Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, laws and regulations, and best practices.
• Mentors and advises Chatham students and focuses particularly on the concerns of
students from traditionally marginalized backgrounds (e.g., students of color, LGBTQ
students, students with disabilities, immigrant students, students of faith, veteran
students, or students at the intersection of multiple forms of marginalization).
• Leads or collaboratively contributes to DEI programs and initiatives at Chatham
(examples of past programs include the RISE students of color retreat, BIPOC and Queer Family Dinners, Women of the World Retreat, intergroup dialogues, worldview pluralism initiatives, history and heritage celebrations, and identity-based graduations).
• Instructs 1 section of SDE101: Strategies for Student Success in College during the fall semester and assists with curriculum development for the course.

Title IX & Non-Discrimination:
• Develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures related to Title IX and Nondiscrimination compliance.
• Oversees university bias and discrimination grievances from students. Convenes key
campus partners and ensure equitable institutional response.
• Conducts thorough and impartial investigations into complaints of sex-based
discrimination, harassment, or violence, to include interviewing parties involved,
gathering evidence and making findings based on the investigation.
• Provides training and programs to students, faculty, and staff to raise awareness about
Title IX rights and responsibilities.
• Maintains accurate records of Title IX complaints, investigations, and resolutions, to be
submitted as reports to regulatory agencies as necessary.
• Collaborates with other campus offices and departments, such as human resources, legal counsel, and campus safety, to ensure a coordinated response to Title IX matters.
• Monitors ongoing compliance with Title IX regulations and stays informed about changes or updates to federal and state laws related to sex-based discrimination in education.
• Regularly reviews and updates Title IX policies to ensure they align with current laws
and best practices. Seeks feedback from the campus community to improve policies and procedures.
• Responds promptly and effectively to reports of incidents covered by Title IX and
provide support and resources to individuals affected by sex-based discrimination or
violence.
• Serves as an advocate for the rights of individuals affected by sex-based discrimination.
• Engages the campus community to promote awareness of Title IX rights and resources.
• Fosters partnerships with external organizations and agencies focused on preventing sex-based discrimination.



Qualifications:
• Master's Degree from an accredited institution (preferred: advanced degree in education, higher education, leadership, social work, criminal justice, law, or a related field).
• 5 years of direct professional experience related to higher education DEI, Title IX,
student conduct, campus safety, victim advocacy, criminal justice, and/or compliance in
higher education.
• In-depth understanding of Title IX regulations and resolution processes, Clery, and
FERPA, and an ability to translate this knowledge into practical application.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including proven dispute resolution skills.
• Thorough understanding of Title IX and other federal, state, and local laws and
regulations related to sex-based discrimination in education.
• The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, and presentation skills; excellent oral and written
communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work independently on concurrent projects under the pressure of multiple deadlines.
• The ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of products (including OneDrive, Teams),
experience using related software, and the ability to learn quickly new software and
systems.



Salary Range:
$70,000 - $80,000. 40-hour work week.
Exact compensation based on candidate skills and experience.
