The Opportunity
Chelsea Piers Connecticut is seeking a full-time Skilled Tradesman to perform a variety of skilled maintenance work, requiring the knowledge of one or more skilled trades (eg. Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, drywall). You will work under the guidance and support of the Operations Director and Manager-on-Duty to resolve facility operational issues and/or safety concerns. You will work both alone and as part of a team, depending on the required manpower to complete a task or project. Work will be delegated and put on the Maintenance Schedule by the Operations Director on a weekly basis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with venue personnel, subcontractors, vendors (eg. Identifying project specifications, ordering materials, equipment and supplies) for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Guide other maintenance workers in performing skilled crafts for the purpose of providing support to workers developing their knowledge of skills with trade.
- Inspect facility, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuing safety and cleanliness, and identifying necessary repairs
- Frequently install a variety of items and/or system components of a complex nature (e.g., cabinetry, walls, doors, and hardware, office equipment, phone/data cables).
- Maintain tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Perform a variety of facility and equipment repair and maintenance activities in multiple venues within areas of trade expertise (e.g., electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete, drywall, painting).
- Procure equipment and supplies in collaboration with outside vendors for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
Schedule: Full-Time, about 40 hours per week (8-hour shifts), early mornings and weekend work required.
Compensation: $20-$25/hour, depending on experience
Qualifications
- SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE. Specific skill-based competencies required to perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; knowledge of many different trades; operating equipment and tools used in specific trade work; leading and guiding other skilled maintenance workers; and planning and managing projects.
- ABILITY to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups, problem solve to identify issues and create a plan of action. Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
