GENERAL DUTIES: We are excited to announce a unique professional development opportunity for educators to collaborate and enhance their instructional practices. This initiative focuses on unpacking the upcoming Fishtank and ODELL units while incorporating strategies to explicitly integrate the WIDA 2020 standards. The goal is to provide intentional support for Multilingual Learners (MLLs) by addressing their specific needs and fostering explicit language instruction
during SLA/ELA/ELD.
Key Objectives:
? Develop dual language strategies that align with best practices. (ELC)
? Integrate bridging lessons to support language development. (ELC)
? Enhance unit accessibility for entering and emerging language learners. (HS & ELC)
? Support explicit language instruction through intentional planning of language targets. (HS & ELC)
Details:
? Allocated Time: 10 hours total.
? Compensation: Teachers will be paid at the contractual rate for work outside of the school day (up to 8 hours).
Projects Included:
1. Project 1: ELC - Intentional Planning Language Targets and Bridging Moments (ELA/SLA). Total of 1 facilitation and 4 teachers
2. Project 2: HS MLE Odell Working Group - WIDA Standard Integration. Total of 1 facilitation and 5 teachers
This is a valuable opportunity for educators to collaborate, refine instructional approaches, and
ensure that all students, particularly MLLs, have equitable access to high-quality instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be an educator at one of the ELC and HS schools who teaches entering and emerging ELs. We are looking for a well represented group of educators. Duties: ELC K-1 & CHS 9-12. MLE/ELA teachers will get the chance to start to preview and prepare for the implementation of the Fishtank and ODELL curriculums in
foundational/newcomers and DL classrooms.
COMPENSATION: There will be 10 hours allocated to this work for both projects.
Compensation: Teachers will be paid at the contractual rate for work outside of the school day (up to 8 hours total)
