Welcome! At La Colaborativa, our goal is to empower Chelsea residents and local organizations to bring about social, environmental, and economic justice to our community.
Role Overview:
Every year, La Colaborativa holds the city of Chelsea’s annual summer internship program for high school students, the Summer Youth Employment Initiative. Each group of interns reports to their Program Facilitator, who drives out and leads weekly scheduled activities alongside a matched external partner organization. Facilitators will have the ability to plan out curriculum, leading sessions, planning, and be responsible for directly overseeing their team of ~15 high school interns. Creating a safe environment for career exploration and mentoring. For example: the cohort of Einterns are assigned a Facilitator, to do projects sent by their partner organization: a startup in Boston.
Top Candidates Should Possess:
- Excellent organizational skills with an independent working style
- Ability to demonstrate diverse problem solving skills and quick on their feet
- Demonstrates understanding of effective classroom management
- An ability to mentor, motivate, inspire, and relate to high schoolers
- Organize data and track program outcomes, such as attendance and funder requirements
- Passion for social justice and economic empowerment at the grassroots level
- High energy leaders
- Experience in teaching/curriculum design
Position Breakdown:
Project-based learning:
Program facilitators help interns develop, execute and evaluate projects relevant to the career focus of their cohort. This project may be in conjunction with a community site partner, business or organization. At the end of the summer facilitators will help their interns present their research projects surrounded on youth leadership and present to City officials.
Professional Workforce skills training
Program facilitators will design work projects for youth to gain relevant, in-demand skills within a professional field with their partner organization. Each day of the internship needs to be well organized, well-planned, and well-executed with several back-up strategies depending on the flow of the session. The Program Facilitator will have to facilitate daily activities to lead the interns and produce engaging, original content that is pre-approved by the Youth Programs Manager and documented in the weekly reports.
Fostering a sense of community, youth leadership and social/emotional wellbeing on the team
We seek program facilitators that can provide a safe and engaging space for youth to connect with one another and grow as leaders. All curriculum should be developed from a youth-centered perspective and high value will be placed on cultural competency, equity and community engagement
Supervision & support to youth for their successful participation with a site partner
The program facilitators will supervise and support youth as they explore their career centered research projects where they will gain practical experience in the field. Facilitators will ensure interns are engaged, punctual and committed to their placements in the community.Additional duties as needed to support the Youth Development Administration Team.
