This position works closely with other Early Childhood education faculty to provide high-quality instruction in a comprehensive program of both theory and practical experience designed to prepare graduates to work with young children in a variety of settings. The program goal is to provide students with a broad understanding of theoretical perspectives, methodologies, and content knowledge appropriate to the professional early childhood educator. The Early Childhood Education instructor also provides advising services and acts as a liaison between the program and its university and community partners.

Instructional Program Responsibilities

  • Teaches the college's standard Early Childhood Education courses

  • Collaborates with partner colleges and universities to develop pathways and articulation agreements

  • Develops and teaches new courses in response to diverse community and student needs and interests

  • Maintains an awareness of current research in Early Childhood Education and incorporates research within instruction

Instruction

  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

  • Maintains regular office hours; provides timely responses to student inquiries, and advises/assists students so that they become more likely to succeed both within their Chemeketa experience and the broader educational community; adheres to all established college policies as they relate to full-time faculty members

  • Actively participates with other faculty in regular departmental duties and in the ongoing planning, oversight, and assessment of the Early Childhood Education program college curriculum and budget and the Early Childhood Education lab school, its parents and children

  • Actively participates in college and community committees and functions as a representative of the Early Childhood Education program

  • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes

  • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required

  • Keeps up-to-date regarding technological changes and developments and current teaching methods in subject area

  • Attends staff meetings; works in cooperative manner with others in department and college

  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Development, or Education (with an emphasis in Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Child Development) or closely related field with at least 24 graduate credit hours in relevant Early Childhood Education coursework

-AND-

One year of successful teaching experience with young children from birth to age 6 

-AND-

One year of successful teaching experience with adult learners

-AND-

Experience teaching in a variety of modalities including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish College Teaching Experience

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in an Early Childhood Education lab school including experience in supervision of college practicum students 

  • Experience collaborating with Early Childhood Education community partners

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum design for young children 

  • Multicultural/anti-bias education experience

  • Early Childhood Special Education/inclusion experience

  • Experience in curriculum design in both English and Spanish

  • Articulation agreements

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a 100%, 10-month faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, you must supply official transcripts within 30-days of hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
  • Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks. Only information relevant to the position will be considered. An individual with negative information on their background inquiry will not necessarily be denied employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
