Recycling Supervisor - This is a position in the Chenango County Department of Public Works involving responsibility for overseeing and participating in the daily operations of a recycling center and refuse transfer station. The incumbent supervises the activities of subordinate recycling and transfer station employees in addition to operating a variety of equipment used in recycling and transfer station functions. Frequent travel to other work locations is a requirement of an incumbent in this position. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works or the Deputy Director of Public Works with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the duties of the position. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate employees. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma three years of full-time paid experience or its’ part-time equivalent in landfill, recycling or solid waste disposal work, public works or heavy construction, which included or was supplemented by one year of experience operating materials handling equipment and one year of supervisory experience*.
*Supervisory experience shall be defined as responsibility for the selection, supervision, and performance evaluation of subordinate personnel, and the coordination and management of related program activities.
Special Requirement: At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment a candidate/incumbent must possess a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License B (CDL-B) and a driving record acceptable to the County’s Insurance carrier.
