Job Summary:
Utilizes knowledge of language revitalization strategies and methodologies to help develop language proficiency targeted curricula. Collects and researches existing curricula for improvement and redesign. Aids in researching and developing a new curriculum designed for specific learning needs, such as content, setting, and methodological approach. Assists in ensuring curricula quality to create maximum learning efficacy.

Job Duties:
Monitors instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions. Partners with different language departments to ensure instructional and curriculum services meet teachers’ and students’ needs. Plans, implements, and evaluates instructional programs with teachers, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques. Applies research and language revitalization data to improve the content, sequence, and results of the teaching and learning process. Conducts research and assesses curricula development and makes recommendations to the program administrators. Involves instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs. Plans the necessary time, resources, and materials to support the accomplishment of educational goals. Participates in the various levels of decision making processes to establish and review the Cherokee Nation’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs from infancy to elderly. Actively supports the efforts of others to achieve the Cherokee Nation Strategic Language Implementation Plan (CNSLIP) goals and objectives. Uses working knowledge of language proficiency levels to help develop materials needed to target learning at multiple proficiency levels. Obtains and uses evaluative findings, including student achievement data, to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness. Assists in planning and providing effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission and needs of the Cherokee Nation program evaluation outcomes and input from teachers and others. Organizes language curricula in both English and the target language. Supports common vision for improvement with staff. Directs planning activities and puts programs in place with staff to ensure the attainment of the Cherokee Nation Strategic Language Implementation Plan (CNSLIP) vision. Partners with other tribes in identifying, analyzing, and applying research findings to promote improvement in Indigenous Language revitalization. Works with teachers and administrators to implement a new curriculum, and to assess existing curriculum implementation and quality of instruction if required. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from 4-year college or university; or completion of the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program; or Graduate of Cherokee Immersion School.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No additional experience.

COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should know Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).


Depending on work location, may be required to meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
