What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Technologist I or II Regular Part-Time (Friday-Sunday) position at Cherokee Nation?
Conducts a variety of laboratory tests and duties according to established laboratory procedures, and in compliance with Cherokee Nation Policies and Procedures, Rural Health Guidelines and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA'88), and Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA) regulations, or any other applicable rules, regulations and guidelines while working under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Director.
Qualifications
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST I
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university or have graduated from a Medical Technology School approved by a recognized accrediting organization.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No additional experience is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be a registered Medical Technologist or registry eligible and must obtain registry within six (6) months of hire and maintain throughout employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST II
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university or have graduated from a Medical Technology School approved by a recognized accrediting organization.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No additional experience required.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be a registered Medical Technologist and maintain throughout employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities:
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Practices only within the boundaries of competence, based on documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Provides health services of a scope, quality, and quantity consistent with Cherokee Nation policies. Promptly notifies the lab supervisor of shift problems/issues beyond their immediate resolve. Collects, prepares and conducts tests on laboratory specimens while maintaining their integrity in accordance with appropriate procedures. Performs all assays according to the laboratory's protocols and procedures, establishes validity test results, accurately transcribes, reviews and reports tests results, performs all necessary computer functions in order to manage tests data, verify test procedures, and establish the laboratory's performance criteria. Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results. Ensures that patient's results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly. Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory instruments according to established protocol. Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and standardization on all instruments within an established time frame and keeps accurate and up to date records of such performance and quality control checks. Recognizes any malfunction of instruments and takes immediate corrective action to restore proper operation of the instrument(s). Notifies clinician when test results will be delayed. Follows all safety policies including but not limited to general safety, hazardous communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan and Blood Borne Pathogens. Adheres to professional ethical standards. Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal, tribal and/or state regulations. Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client/patient, unless authorized in writing by the client/patient or required by law or court order. Complies with the applicable state and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety and confidentiality of any health services record created, maintained, transferred, or destroyed, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium. Other duties may be assigned.
