Job Summary:
Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and organizes physical activity and health promotion programs for individual, groups, and community needs.Â
Job Duties:
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.Â
Assesses program participants needs for physical activity, nutrition, and health promotion.Â
Plans and conducts effective physical activity and health promotion programs for program participants and community members.Â
Communicates physical activity, nutrition education, and health promotion-related needs and concerns to community members.Â
Conducts lifestyle classes with program participants on an individual and group basis.Â
Guides and supports program participants in the process of self-management.Â
Evaluates the effectiveness of the health promotion program provided to participants and the community. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY SPECIALIST I
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
One-year certification from college or technical school in Physical Education, Health Education or related field; or 1-1/2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No additional experience required.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY SPECIALIST II
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year College or university in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field; or 6 years or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
No Additional Experience Required.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY SPECIALIST III
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year College or university in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field; no substitutions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY SPECIALIST IV
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Master's degree from 4-year College or university in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field; no substitutions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least five (5) years of experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Database software, Design software, Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. The person that fills this position will be traveling within the community to teach and facilitate physical fitness activities.Â
Prefer a certified Physical Fitness Specialist or Nationally-Recognized Training Certification.Â
Must be certified in CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Must meet and maintain periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
