SUPERVISOR:
Athletic Director or designee.
SUMMARY:
1. Work cooperatively with Unified Coordinator and Athletic Director
2. Assist athletes in learning sports skills and applying them in competitions.
3. Empower the entire athlete, helping them become healthier through fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
4. Encourage confidence and self-esteem through sport.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. General knowledge of sporting event and Unified Program.
2. Work cooperatively with Unified Coordinator and Athletic Director.
3. Create a roster for Participants
4. Supervision of athletes at practices, events, and transportation.
5. Communication with athletes and parents about practices, games, and expectations.
6. Emergency cards, and contact numbers carried to each event.
7. Attend all practices and events.
8. Attend meetings with Unified coordinator or district meeting –when needed
9. Understand and adhere to Unified rules and philosophy.
10. Pre & post season meetings with Unified Coordinator.
11. Safety plan & emergency numbers kept on file (should include information on 504s, IEPs, and other student needs).
12. Coach will have knowledge of student medical needs
13. Promote and celebrate the unified team/program.
14. Assist Unified coordinator with fund Raising efforts.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
1. Have an understanding of Special Olympics Unified program. Experience working with students with disabilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. General knowledge of sporting event and Unified Program.
2. Concussion certification yearly.
3. Ability to work with students with disabilities.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Heavy physical lifting (50 lbs – items of various shapes and sizes).
2. Overhead lifting and squatting required on a daily basis.
3. Repetitive motion.
4. Standing, bending and kneeling.
5. Eye/hand coordination.
7. Handling, talking, hearing and near acuity required.
