REPORTS TO: CNC Supervisor/On-Site Foreman/Shipyard Superintendent
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Produce machine components using a computer numerical control, or CNC, Messer Plasma Table, and our 250-ton, 14ft CNC Press Brake. Programming, operating, and implementing machine processes while maintaining company safety and quality expectations. Additionally, you’ll manage related inventory and keep accurate records of daily production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:
- Import provided nesting and CAD drawings to machine steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts used to build ships.
- Use magnets, overhead gantry cranes, and forklifts to move 10’ x 40’ steel plates and remove cut parts.
- Use magnets, overhead gantry cranes, and forklifts to move parts through the CNC Press Brake.
- Manage stock inventory with regular checks and anticipate needs with responsive ordering.
- Install and adjust tools, cutting heads, consumables, and stops.
- Detect and troubleshoot system malfunctions by taking measurements, adjusting controls, reprogramming machines, and closely monitoring scribing and cutting.
- Adhere to all company, local, state, and federal protocols and safety regulations.
- Complete regular preventative maintenance and call for repairs as needed.
- Communicate with other shifts and accurately document daily production operations to maintain continuity.
- Operate all-terrain forklift, Mi-Jack, and other heavy machinery.
- Use handheld plasma torches and welding equipment.
- All other duties as assigned based on operational needs.

WORK HOURS: 40-50 hours per week. Standard 8-hour shifts on a 5-day work week with overtime. Candidates may be asked to work weekends. Normal hours are Monday-Friday.
- Day Shift: 6:00am to 2:30pm or 3:30pm based on operational needs.
KNOWLEDGE:
- 3 years’ experience in the field.
- Proficient in machine shop math.
- Welding experience a plus.
- Previous supply management experience.
- Developed verbal communication skills.
- Excellent judgment and attention to detail.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Familiarity with standard industry programming technology
- Safe use of all tools and equipment including, but not limited to, bevel square, digital angle, tape measure, plasma torch, and common hand tools.
- Work independently and with teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- All types of physical movement are required for this position to successfully perform the essential functions.
- Ability to use upper and lower extremities.
- Ability to work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold.
- Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, climb, and bend around and under equipment, on ladders up to 24' at heights up to 70', stairs, scaffolds, through small accesses, enter inside of tanks, and confined spaces, through hatches, and manholes throughout much of the work shift.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds.
- Able to work over bodies of water.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Normal level of visual acuity needed. Must be able to understand and follow directions. Normal hearing level needed. Hand-eye coordination required.
HAZARDS: Weather, fumes, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, equipment, and vibration.
