Summary

This position provides administrative support to a Commissioner.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate Commissioner's schedule.
  • Provide administrative support.
  • Maintain and enhance public image.
  • Handle phone calls and provide service to the general public.
  • Attend events and functions on the Commissioner's behalf.
  • Speak with press.
  • Plan and organize functions or events.
  • Maintain and update electronic and paper files.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of job-related experience.
  • Experience dealing with and handling the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong ability to speak in public.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Easily adapts to changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to establish priorities.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of county management.
  • Advanced skills to use a personal computer and various software packages.
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill with standard office equipment (fax, copier, etc.).
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong professional ethics.
  • Ability to bring any concerns or complaints to the appropriate department head.
  • Ability to listen effectively so that the public concerns can be understood by Commissioner and/or directed to appropriate contact.
  • Ability to handle phone calls from sometimes distraught, often angry, members of the public.
  • High degree of patience and skill needed for handling difficult situations with the public.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand service provider systems in Chester County government and in non-profit arenas.
  • Knowledge of electoral process, as well as roles and interactions of local, state and federal government.
  • Understanding of national, state and county legislative roles and interactions.
  • Familiarity with municipalities (both geography and organization).
  • Demonstrates integrity and honesty.
  • Flexibility.
  • Proactive.
