What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Students- Hening ES- 2024-25 position at Chesterfield County Public Schools?
Assists the principal with school-based leadership, instruction, curriculum and development of effective teaching and learning strategies. Assists with the supervision and monitoring of student behavior and related activities. Promotes a positive, safe and secure learning environment and works with school staff and parents to prevent and resolve student academic, behavior and/or attendance issues.
Provides instructional leadership when appropriate.
Observes employee performance through non-evaluative observations.
Assists with the coordination and supervision of transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services.
Assists in the implementation of the school discipline management system to provide a safe and secure environment, specifically, to coach teachers to improve classroom discipline.
Assists in monitoring student behavior in classes, on buses and at school events. Ensures that students are adequately supervised during transitions and other non-instructional periods.
Confers with teachers and parents to resolve student academic, behavior and/or attendance issues that disrupt the learning process.
Serves as an administrative designee for IEP meetings as assigned by the assistant principal.
Assist in the coordination and administration of all state and division assessments at the school level.
Supervises daily operations in the absence of the principal and assistant principal.
Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
Supports the building principal in other areas as deemed necessary.

Organizes data and prepares requested reports. Ability to work with various testing management systems
Equipment Operation:
Utilizes a personal computer and general office equipment.
Contacts:
Works daily with school faculty and staff to provide leadership and assistance. Communicates regularly with parents as appropriate. Works frequently with central office personnel and outside agencies to develop and implement discipline, attendance and/or instructional programs.
Work Direction:
Provides work direction to instructional staff and appropriate clerical and support staff.
Supervision:
Assists the principal in supervision of other school personnel as appropriate including the supervision of students before, during school and after school hours.
Decision Making:
High level of independent decision-making under the supervision of the principal.

Work Environment:
Works in an elementary school setting, the noise level is quiet to moderate.
Considerable knowledge of effective teaching strategies including best practices in instruction, classroom management, and positive behavior support and procedures. Has knowledge of the developmental needs of elementary age students. Working knowledge of school law, policies and regulations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing. Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management and research and planning. Demonstrated ability to analyze data to make program decisions and improvements.Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience. Bachelor’s degree and current Virginia teaching license required. Currently hold or working towards an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
