What are the responsibilities and job description for the Division Intervention Support Specialist - Secondary Literacy position at Chesterfield County Public Schools?
Collaborates with the Secondary Literacy Curriculum Specialist to provide professional learning for school-based reading specialists, administrators, teachers, and staff.
Coordinates and develops assessment resources and guidance around diagnostic literacy assessments in order to identify student deficiencies.
Supports evidence-based supplemental instruction and intervention, including support for an individual student reading plan, for students who do not meet literacy benchmarks.
Supports secondary English and reading teachers in using student-level data to inform and plan for core instruction and intervention.
Oversees literacy screener assessments and documentation procedures as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education and Chesterfield County Public Schools.
Supports the Secondary Literacy Curriculum Specialist in the use of assessment data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction; recommends improvements to curriculum, instruction, and assessment based on ongoing analysis of results.
Disaggregates data to provide ongoing assessment of student literacy achievement.
Collaborates with district and school administration and staff in planning for the instructional needs of all students aligned to secondary literacy instructional goals and expectations.
Assists with ordering and disseminating supplemental and intervention materials.
Models instructional strategies and best practices for secondary teachers in scientifically-based reading research and evidence-based literacy instruction, as defined in the Virginia Literacy Act and the Virginia Department of Education English Standards of Learning.
Assists with the planning and implementation of motivational programs to promote reading.
Coordinates and assists in delivering informational programs in literacy for parents.
Attends regular Reading Specialist meetings and state-level trainings, and disseminates information and instructional strategies to staff in a timely manner.

Prepares progress monitoring reports for both the school division and the state as applicable.
Develops and monitors student monitoring reading plans.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to lift up to 25 lbs. bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in a school or office setting. The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Requires knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of instruction. Requires general knowledge of academic curriculum for assigned classes. Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals, to design and deliver instruction and to assess students' learning. Demonstrated ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with a Reading Specialist endorsement.
An endorsement in Administration and Supervision (PreK-12) is preferred.
