Essential Job Functions:
Prepares interior and exterior surfaces for painting or refinishing.
Makes minor plaster and drywall repairs, completes drywall tape joints as needed.
Makes a determination on the existing surface and recommends the correct product needed to paint it.
Prepares and mixes materials used, including paints, stains, plaster, enamels, etc., including any paint or finish removers.
Paints a variety of surfaces, structures, and equipment, including walls, ceiling, trim, furniture, floors, parking lot, playgrounds, etc.; repairs and repaints surfaces.
Works with other maintenance workers, school officials and staff to resolve maintenance problems.
Responds to email and completes electronic work orders.
Able to operate scissor/boom lift.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility: Provides and verifies invoices in a timely manner. Adheres to county spending guidelines.
Report Preparation: Simple written and electronic reports due upon completion of every work order.
Equipment Operation: Must demonstrate skill in use of equipment pertaining to painting. Must demonstrate safe practices in the use of all equipment.
Contacts: Facility Services personnel, Facility Services administrators, Facility Services office staff, and office staff and administrators from individual schools. Occasional contact with vendors, building inspectors, contract workers.
Work Direction: Occasional direction given to trades assistants and Facility Coordinators.
Supervision: N/A
Decision Making: Independent decision making and problem solving as it relates to painting. Seek supervisor’s approval for extensive repairs/replacement, expenditures outside of routine supplies and materials, and before calling an outside contractor.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities: May provide input or recommendations related to policy changes.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb and work on high structures and use hands to climb, move, handle or feel objects, tools and equipment; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is regularly exposed to potentially toxic fumes and chemicals. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit and climb and balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: The employee regularly is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Works both indoors and outdoors and regularly works at high heights. The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Considerable knowledge of practices and methods of painting and finishing/refinishing of surfaces and the proper selection and use of paints, stains and other chemicals associated with painting, finishing and refinishing. Demonstrated ability to rig and work from scaffolds; to work safely and efficiently with various types of equipment, machinery and tools and to maintain and service equipment. Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Ability to work on an IPAD.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job. Valid VA driver’s license required. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
