What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Support Counselor position at Chesterfield County, VA?
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; some college coursework preferred; experience in giving direct behavioral and hygiene care to individuals with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities or related experience in a human services field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The applicant should have experience with a PC or laptop as the position requires basic computer skills including word processing and typing skills. The position requires excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. The applicant should be familiar with and writing or summarizing daily documentation of individuals receiving services. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one more major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre- employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Duties
Responsibilities of a Day Support Counselor will include the following:
- Complete daily documentation on services and supports provided to individuals
- Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans as a member of the day program and monitors/evaluates individual’s progress
- Provide personal care, facilitate various classes, and assist persons while in the community for trips, activities, and or instructional classes
- Compile data as required to document the delivery of services; perform other work as required.
You must be comfortable working within a class structure as well as the community, engaging persons, and assisting individuals with developmental disabilities. The job is based at a community day program center and can occur in the community for volunteer and recreational program activities. This is a 35-hour/week position that offers full-time health & dental benefits.
