What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Specialist - Academy (part-time) position at Chesterfield County, VA?
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a former police officer; must be a US citizen; must have a high school diploma or GED; held a DCJS instructor certification within the last 12 months preferred; minimum of three years’ teaching as a DCJS-certified general instructor preferred. Possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest plea to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault. Must pass an FBI criminal background investigation, which may include a polygraph, psychological and medical screening. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.
Duties
Staff various specialized assignments throughout the police department. The present need involves assisting in the facilitation of the basic, pre-certified and police service aide (PSA) academies to include scheduling rooms and instructors; assist in administratively managing written tests and practical’s; auditing and updating lesson plans, supporting daily academy activities. Assist in providing instruction for basic, pre-certified, PSA, in-service, and other members as needed. Perform other tasks as directed to support the police training division staff. Police vehicles are not provided for this position. Perform other work as required.
