Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in grounds maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good oral/written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills needed; must possess or obtain within nine months of employment, a Registered Technician Pesticide License. Ability to work with customers in a courteous, efficient, and tactful manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public. Ability to read chemical labels; read material safety data sheets (SOS). Ability to perform semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, and landscaping tasks. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.

Duties
Bring your appreciation for working outdoors to Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation. We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team. Our parks maintenance staff work year-round with early hours and a strong benefits package. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields and adjunct facilities. Performs skilled and advanced maintenance duties in the following areas: turf management, lining/painting of athletic fields, diamond fields maintenance, chemical spray application, pest identification, irrigation and/or equipment operation. Measures, lays out and lines athletic fields and courts to prescribed standards; prepares fields and courts for play; inspects for safety and maintenance needs, completes the appropriate inspections sheets and paperwork; helps repair pipes; fixes sprinkler heads; assists with some irrigation repairs; washes and cleans tools and equipment; performs related tasks as required. Assists with assembly and/or repair of athletic/park facility equipment, such as goals, nets, courts, bleachers, etc. Duties also include litter removal, mowing and repairs to fixtures; turf management (seeding, fertilizing, etc.); athletic field maintenance; minor construction and other related tasks; operate various types of equipment and power tools; perform carpentry and plumbing tasks; lift 50 pounds or more. Perform other work as required. Must be available before and after hurricanes and/or other storms for preparation and emergency clean-up.
