What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Safety Officer (part-time) position at Chesterfield County?
Associate's degree in a related field of study; or a high school diploma or GED and training and experience in public speaking, teaching or program planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to write and implement lesson plans. Excellent group management and organizational skills. Experience in working with elementary school age children. Good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years. Responsibilities include teaching 32 different age-appropriate Success Through Education and Proactive Policing (STEPP) lessons while providing a supervised and structured environment for Chesterfield County public elementary school students. Provides instruction to students through lecture style teaching, audio and visual aids, props and handout materials. Provides guidance and acts as a positive role model while teaching respect and encouraging children to make sound decisions concerning their safety and well-being. Directing traffic daily in and out of school areas while focusing on the safety of pedestrians and bike riders. Child Safety Officers receive specialized training annually along with on-the-job training. Perform other work as required. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
