LEAD SPEACIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
The Lead Teacher will provide day to day support, resources, and oversight to the New Directions Academic Staff. This position provides the delivery of the academic curriculum to all students and oversees the program’s Unit Behavioral Management System. The Lead Teacher will work closely with the New Directions Academic Director and Program Manager to fulfill the programs Academic standards, organization, and supervision of the Academic Staff. The Lead Teacher will continue to follow all job duties as outlined in the Teacher job description in addition to the Lead Teacher responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance, training, and support for the Academic staff
- Supervise the Academic staff and communicate with the Academic Director for any concerns or positive feedback.
- Work with the Lead Therapists to arrange and provide coverage of program sessions to assure compliance with regulations and program policy.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely efficient manner with good computer skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate processes and expectations in both written and verbal forms.
- Assume the responsibility, if necessary to be a Trainer for curriculum needed for the program.
- Meet the requirements in the following trainings: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), CPR and First Aid.
- Participation with in-service trainings and workshops
- Must possess a public Department of Education Certification in Special Education.
- Ability to use the computer to complete tasks such as emails, documentations and forms.
- Ability to drive a vehicle to locations for meetings, conferences and workshops
- Read, interpret and digest Evaluation Reports (ER), Re-Evaluation Reports (RR), Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP), and Individual Educational Plans (IEP)
- Ability to gather information from educators, related service providers and therapists to formulate special education paperwork
- Conduct special education meetings with school district personnel, related service providers, parents/guardians, and student to adjust and plan the academic program upon admission and discharge
- Maintain organization with time lines and deadlines for special education paperwork
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Education: Bachelor’s or master's degree in special education
Experience: 1 year Teaching Experience Preferred
Certification: Pennsylvania Public School Certification in Special Education is required
Other Requirements: Proficient in in basic computer skills
Act 33/34 clearances and FBI clearances
Act 168 Certification
Ability to comply with physicals and tuberculosis screenings per the Department of Education requirements.
