Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Reports To: Director of Education & Associate Director
Position Type: Full Time - 40 hours per week Job Overview
The special education teacher will provide specialized instruction to students and support them in reaching their academic and social goals. Additionally, this role will work alongside a behavioral specialist within the classroom setting to further meet the student needs.
Responsibilities and Duties
● Evaluating students' skills and educational needs
● Creating individualized education programs (IEP) for each student that address their needs
● Monitoring students' performance and updating their IEPs throughout the year
● Differentiates the instruction to meet the needs of all students (multi-grade level)
● Adapting lessons to meet students' needs, and teaching in a variety of settings, including small groups and one-on-one
● Communicates with families regarding academic and behavioral performance
● Creates meaningful and engaging lessons that align with PA Academic Standards
● Attends in-service training and any additional professional development
● Keeps record of student behavioral and academic performance
● Assists the behavioral support team with any crisis that may arise with the student
● Communicates with the administrative team and staff regarding needs
● Follows additional requests that are given by the administrative team
Qualifications
● Pennsylvania Teacher Certification in Special Education
● Dual Certification Preferred either in K-6; 7-12; Must be able to provide all state clearances for working in a school setting
● This position may require staff to engage in our crisis intervention program, Verbal De-Escalation and Non-Harmful Restraint
