Responsibilities
The Coder Specialty- Operating Room is responsible for reviewing electronically submitted charges in a timely manner to ensure accurate information is marked. Compare ancillary charge logs from clinical department against pending charge reports to ensure all charges are captured. Notify management of any electronically submitted charge that does not fall within defined parameters for correct charge capture. Participate in monthly close to ensure that all charges are captured, processed, and accounted for in a timely manner. Prepare report of weekly electronic payments from Conifer and note any differences or modifications.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Check for errors in charting and charging for all Surgical Service Departments (Pre-Op, PACU, and Post-Op). Submit errors to Manager over those departments.
- Consolidate Anesthesia and OR documents, compare to the Master Schedule to see if there is missing documentation or paperwork.
- Review Star charge sheets to look for missing charges and overcharges.
- Enter charges for Anesthesia medications and supplies based on charge sheets gathered in OR.
- Keep track of price updates and credit patients for items and submit new updates to Conifer to charge after the patient is discharged.
- Review surgeon dictations to be sure that appropriate procedures are being charged.
- Review suspended and manual charges in Cerner, make appropriate adjustments.
- Inform Supply Chain when items aren’t loaded correctly and notify other departments when necessary.
- Review Star charges and error reports to ensure corrections are made. Charges are crossed over and appropriate person/department is notified if necessary.
- Keep track and submit any late dictations and late charges to administrative leadership.
- Available to assist in coverage for Surgery Scheduling as back up, if needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- BLS-CPR
- CBCS, or CPC, or CPC-HA, or CPCA, or CCA, or CCC, or CCS, or CCC, or CCS-P, or CCVTC, or CHC, or CIRCC, or CPC-H, or RCC, or RHIA, or RHIT
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Pay Range
$25.18 - $36.52 /hour
Salary : $25 - $37
