What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Age Teacher position at Chicago Commons Association?
This position is located at Guadulupano Family Center, 1814 S. Paulina, Chicago, IL 60608
For the summer months this position is a full-time position, the rest of the year it will be part-time Monday - Friday from 2 : 00 p.m. to 6 : 00 p.m. for the After School Program
Position Summary : Under the direction of the Site Director, this position is responsible for developing a classroom atmosphere where children can grow and develop in a safe and positive learning space. The School Age Teacher must be passionate about creating a safe and nurturing environment for children to further their learning experiences during summer camp, select school closure dates, and / or after elementary school hours.
I. Education & Certification Requirements
- School Age Teachers must be at least 19 years of age and at least five years older than the oldest child with whom they work. Candidates must meet 1 of 3 education / experience requirements as listed below :
- Thirty semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university with six semester hours (or nine quarter hours) related to school-age childcare, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields. OR
- 1560 clock hours of experience in a recreational program or licensed day care center serving school-age children or a license exempt school-age childcare program operated by a public or private school, and six semester hours (or nine quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university related to school-age childcare, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields. OR
- A high school diploma or equivalency certificate plus 3120 clock hours of experience in a recreational program, kindergarten, or licensed day care center serving school-age children or a license exempt school-age childcare program operated by a public or private school.

Physical Requirements :
