Position: Life Coach

Reports to: Lawndale Site Manager

Summary

At Chicago CRED, our singular purpose is to achieve a transformative reduction in Chicago gun violence. Chicago CRED was created by Emerson Collective, a social impact organization founded and run by Laurene Powell Jobs, along with former U.S. Education Secretary and Chicago Public
Schools CEO Arne Duncan.

Partnering with community agencies on the West and South Sides of Chicago, Chicago CRED offers holistic wraparound services to disconnected young men in need of support. By engaging those at the highest risk for harm, Chicago CRED aims to transform lives and create safer communities.

The Life Coach is a critical role on the North Lawndale team, supporting ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence in the North Lawndale Community. Life Coaches work closely with young people at the highest risk for perpetrating or being the victims of gun violence. The Life Coach position is a multi- faceted role, serving as a critical anchor in violence reduction efforts. A cornerstone of this program, the Life Coach works alongside young men engaged in street violence as they receive a host of supportive services including counseling, case management, educational attainment and job readiness training. Life Coaches are responsible for critical data capture, tracking individual progress from assessment through each phase of support and the programming that follows.

The entire Chicago CRED team is committed to helping young men navigate life challenges, identify barriers to achievement, and create pathways to well-being and success. The Life Coach will help provide vision and strategy to ensure continued success for each participant.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and accountability to a caseload of 15-25 individuals in their reduction of risk / increase of safety through a coordinated and documented process of support.
  • Complete and coordinate intake and assessment process
  • Create and monitor individual stability factors and
  • Conduct and document a minimum of 1 in-person Life Coaching session each week with every participant on caseload, setting and monitoring goals related to safety, case management and program progression.
  • Develop and monitor individual schedules
  • Document significant contacts, events and progress of each individual
  • Create coordinated care, addressing gaps in information and services for each participant through regular communication with therapist, outreach worker, family and other service providers including transitional employers.
  • Enforce all agency policies, including but not limited to phone policy, behavioral and language expectations, attendance and engagement in group activities.
  • Ability to uphold implementation of the Chicago CRED service delivery model with fidelity.
  • Assist with the facilitation of CRED (self-regulation/CBT) Skills groups and other group facilitation.
  • Ability to work some weekends and evening hours as needed.
  • Have all necessary documentation submitted for approval by 5:00pm on Friday.
  • Ability to effectively deescalate conflicts with participants.
  • Ability to challenge antisocial behavior and consistently hold participants to high standards
  • Coordinate safe and stable housing
  • Coordinate and supervise local filed trips
  • Attend all CRED/Agency workshops and trainings
  • All other tasks as required

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience working with high risk young people
  • Knowledge of the community and street life/organizations
  • Experienced mentor with some career coaching, training and development, and/or workforce development with a focus on older youth/young adult population.
  • Case management skills/experience
  • Demonstrated track-record of accountability
  • Excellent relationship building skills as well as customer service skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with a team, be flexible and dependable, and demonstrate initiative
  • Knowledge of computers, including Word, Excel, and Internet
  • Work is performed in the office and in the field. (Vehicle Required)
  • Experience working high-risk population, in the field of Violence Prevention
  • Knowledge of /experience working with individuals who have experienced or suffered from trauma, PTSD and or anxiety
  • Passion about the reduction of Gun Violence
  • Excellent Communication (written and verbal) assessment skills
  • Experience providing comprehensive trauma-informed case management
  • Ability to evaluate and asses the needs of participants
  • Excellent Coordinating, Planning, and Presentation Skills

Educational Requirements:
1. Associates Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or some other relevant field of study.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $48,500.00 - $50,000.00 per year

COVID-19 considerations:
This position is 100% in-person. However, we take multiple precautionary measures (including masking and regular testing) to help keep staff safe.

Proof of full vaccination is required for this role.

  • Violence Prevention: 3 years (Required)
  • Case management: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Required)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
