Resident Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a broad-scoped caregiver position.  The Resident Associate has full responsibility for direct resident care.  This includes personal care, assistance with activities of daily living, helping residents participate in the daily activity program, meal preparation, laundry and housekeeping.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Promotes interactions and activity that reflect the Mission and Values of the Organization while consistently demonstrating and ensuring person centered customer service.

Daily oversight of the wellbeing of the residents; Observes and records on an ongoing basis residents’ condition including mental state and general wellbeing, changes in residents’ physical conditions, and reports to the Nurse on Duty and Director, when appropriate.

Adheres to the daily activity schedule and documents appropriately.

Adheres to the shower and laundry schedule and documents as necessary.

Assists residents with daily activities and direct care according to procedures and daily assignments.  This includes but is not limited to assistance with bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming.

Responds to resident emergency call system, makes rounds and checks on safety and security of residents.  Use of independent judgment to provide assistance to residents or summon assistance from other personnel.

Assists with serving meals, ensuring residents’ attendance and observes residents while eating.  May arrange for and deliver meal trays for room service as needed as well as assisting residents to and from meals.

Maintains a clean and odor-free environment while using proper sanitary and aseptic techniques. Use universal precautions as appropriate.

Assists with light housekeeping and maintains a clutter-free environment for residents.

Leads activities program for the residents and assists with daily events as requested, including living room activities, courtyard events, lounge activities and outings.

May assist in the admission, orientation, discharge, and transfer of residents.

Greets visitors with a positive attitude and a smile.

Gathers, wash and distributes resident laundry.

Maintains a positive attitude about the residents and the neighborhood, including co-worker relationships.

Treats residents, family, and staff with dignity and respect.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and skills to effectively interact and communicate with persons exhibiting dementia.  Possess strong interpersonal skills with family members, visitors and co-workers.  Experience in care giving required.  Completion of eight (8) hour dementia training program.  Available to work flexible schedule.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent
