What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Planner position at Chicago Metropolitan Agen?
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking to hire a full-time employee at the Senior level in the Planning Division. We are interested in applicants in the field of planning with advanced experience and subject matter expertise in economic development and/or land use and housing, particularly connecting that work to policy and regulations, transportation and funding challenges. Additionally, we are interested in applicants that have experience working for municipality or on behalf of a municipality.
Successful candidates would be part of a large department and provide technical and professional support for CMAP’s long-range comprehensive regional plan, technical assistance program, policy development, research, data analysis, and other activities as assigned to contribute to the agency’s mission.
Experience leading and supporting planning projects and initiatives, including scope development, project tracking, and budgeting is preferred. Projects may include, but are not limited to, long-range land use and transportation planning, short-range planning services, policy development, corridor and economic development strategies, plan implementation support for partners, and similar planning activities. Senior planners typically fill project management and subject matter expert roles on these projects.
Work is typically performed under the supervision of a Program Manager/Principal. This position requires travel throughout the region and candidates must have the ability and willingness to work with communities across the region.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
Required is a bachelor's degree in urban planning or related field such as geography, architecture, sociology, public administration, public policy, or environmental science, and the following:
A minimum 5 years of advancing experience, through professional practice, with urban planning projects including content development, research, advanced data collection and analysis, data mapping, field work, external partner engagement, consultant management, AND minimum 2 years of advancing project management experience is preferred.
Preferred is a master's degree in planning, public policy, or a related discipline.

Hiring Range for Senior Planners: $77,087.78 -- $98,286.78
