What are the responsibilities and job description for the ARCHITECTURAL IRON WORKER (M) position at Chicago Park District?
Title: Architectural Iron Worker Level: 4302
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision, fabricates and install architectural or ornamental iron work in accordance with prescribed blueprints or oral instructions; works with coworkers/employees as assigned and performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Fabricates and installs architectural or ornamental work. Executes any kind of architectural or ornamental iron work in accordance with prescribed drawings, specifications, rough sketches, or oral instructions. Does all flame and arc cutting, brazing, welding and spot welding on all ferrous or non-ferrous metals used in connection with ornamental iron work. Works with coworker/employees assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent is recommended. A minimum of four years' experience of progressively complex iron work and related duties is required. Experience in riveting, soldering, welding and repair techniques is desirable.
PREFERRED QULIFICATIONS:
- Completion of an apprenticeship program with the Architectural and Ornamental Ironwork Union.
- Welding certification (papers) available upon request.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of architectural and ornamental iron working methods and techniques. Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous materials used in architectural and ornamental iron working. Skill in riveting, soldering, welding, basic fabrication and iron repair techniques. Ability to use power tools and other equipment used for iron work. Ability to read blueprints. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
