The Position:
We are seeking a full-time bilingual Employment Specialist to join our team. This position reports to the Adult Services Manager at Balboa Outpatient Treatment Services and the Senior Clinical Director. The Employment Specialist helps clients secure and maintain employment aligned with their vocational goals. This involves collaborating with therapists, assessing client needs, researching resources, connecting clients to job opportunities, and facilitating access to educational and employment services. Additional duties include providing referrals, encouraging pro-social activities, assisting with job applications, leading/co-leading groups, monitoring academic/vocational progress, and coordinating with agencies like DOR, Probation, and GAIN.
What You’ll Do
- Conducts initial needs assessments with CalWORKs and TAY clients.
- Builds trusting relationships to assist clients in securing competitive employment.
- Provides guidance on how employment affects financial benefits and refers to counseling as needed.
- Assesses vocational functioning and discusses disclosure preferences with clients.
- Conducts job development and searches, aligning with CalWORKs Mental Health Program guidelines.
- Makes at least six employer contacts weekly to learn business needs and promote client strengths.
- Provides ongoing follow-along support to help clients maintain employment and adjust job support plans.
- Educates and supports employers on job accommodations and follow-up care, with client consent.
- Offers outreach services to re-engage clients when necessary and provides timely interventions.
- Participates in team meetings, collaborates with clinicians, and maintains accurate records of services provided.
- Full-time (40 hours per week), schedule is based on the needs of the clients/center.
- This position is fully onsite.
- Starting Salary: $21.96 - $26.44 per hour commensurate on experience.
Qualifications
- Bilingual Spanish/English required
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
- Ability to gather and assess information under pressure, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Good judgment and decision-making abilities in a clinical setting.
- Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and a commitment to improving quality and building skills.
- Consistently punctual, reliable, and able to complete projects and reports on time.
- Works effectively as part of a team, maintaining a respectful and collaborative attitude toward others.
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or other relevant field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. High School Diploma or GED Required.
