Job Summary: –
To support perspective and existing home-based child care providers and school-age child care programs through the registration process, on-going program maintenance, and to ensure the timely completion of all New York State Office of Children and Family Services requirements.
- Provides support and technical assistance to individuals who are interested in becoming Registered Family Child Care or School Age Child Care Providers.
- Provides support and technical assistance to existing Registered Family Child Care and School Age Child Care Providers in maintaining their registered status.
- Provides support and technical assistance to Registered Family Child Care and School Age Child Care Providers who are preparing their registration renewal.
- Reviews paperwork received from prospective and renewing Registered Family Child Care or School Age Child Care Providers.
- Conduct initial inspections of prospective program sites and monitoring visits as needed.
- Maintains accurate and complete electronic and paper files on all Registered Family Child Care and School Age Child Care Providers.
- Receives and process complaints regarding illegal or out-of-compliance providers.
- Offers on-going training for child care programs consistent with Office of Children and Family Services requirements or other training required by projects or directors.
- Deliver presentations to community as needed.
- Provides back-up support to Director and Agency staff as needed.
- Other duties as needed or required to support the Council and provider community.
Competencies:
- AA degree (BA/BS preferred) in Early Childhood, Child Development, Education, or related field.
- Candidates must meet the requirements to become a NYS Health and Safety trainer.
- 3 or more years of experience working with children in a NYS OCFS-licensed or registered child care setting.
- 2 or more years of documented experience working as a classroom trainer for adults in an early childhood-related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Comfortable prioritizing tasks without guidance
- Capable of functioning calmly under stressful situations and within strict deadlines
- Experienced and comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
- Driver’s license, clean driving record and daily access to a reliable licensed and insured vehicle required.
- Able and willing to drive throughout the Council’s 3 county service area during all months of the year.
- Available to work Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
- Knowledge of New York State Child Care Regulations helpful
- Positive and friendly approach in communication with customers and staff
- Works independently as well as in a team setting.
- Punctual with a strong attendance history
- Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette are required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience in making presentations to groups of adults.
- Knowledge of projects and task management tools
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods and physically able to climb stairs.
