About the role!

The Assistant Director- EBC is responsible for overseeing the social, emotional, and behavioral development of students in a non-public school setting. This includes promoting a positive school culture, ensuring student discipline, and supporting the academic and personal growth of all students. The Dean will work closely with staff, parents, and students to uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all learners. This position currently reports to the Director of Schools.

As Assistant Director, you will :

Student Discipline and Behavior Management :

  • Oversee student conduct and discipline, ensuring that policies are consistently enforced. Collaborate with faculty and staff to address behavioral issues and implement strategies for positive student behavior. Provide interventions for students who require additional support and guide them toward appropriate behavioral changes.
  • Promoting School Culture :

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful school climate that aligns with the school’s values and mission. Plan and implement initiatives to celebrate diversity, promote student leadership, and encourage student involvement in school activities.
  • Student Counseling and Support :

  • Provide support to students in addressing personal, social, and emotional issues. Serve as a resource for students and parents, offering guidance and helping them access resources, such as counseling services, to address challenges.
  • Crisis Management :

  • Take the lead in managing school crises, including incidents related to student safety, mental health concerns, and emergencies. Work with administrators and external professionals to ensure effective responses and interventions.
  • Communication with Parents and Guardians :

  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student behavior, academic progress, and well-being. Act as a liaison between the school and home to address concerns and provide updates on student development.
  • Policy Development and Enforcement :

  • Assist in the development and implementation of school policies related to student behavior, attendance, and academic expectations. Ensure that all policies are effectively communicated to students, parents, and staff.
  • Staff Collaboration and Training :

  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and staff to ensure effective behavior management strategies are in place across the school. Provide ongoing professional development and training on issues such as student discipline, mental health, and conflict resolution.  Obtain your Pro-Act trainer certificate.
  • Attendance and Truancy :

  • Monitor student attendance and work with families to address attendance issues and truancy. Develop strategies for improving student attendance and academic participation.
  • Student Retention and Well-being :

  • Monitor the overall well-being of students, and identify those who may be struggling academically, socially, or emotionally. Provide early intervention to support students and help reduce disengagement and improve retention.

  • Proven ability to handle sensitive student issues with empathy and confidentiality.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide both students and staff.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with academic and behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Proficiency in technology tools used for student management and communication.
  • About your background (education / experience) :

  • Master’s degree in special education or a related field.
  • Educational Specialist Credential with at least 5 years teaching before becoming an administrator.
  • Possessing a BCBA is preferred.
  • Working Conditions

    Physical Requirements :

  • The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Special Job Requirements :

  • It will  be necessary for the Head of School to occasionally attend after-school or agency-wide events that take place after regular school hours.
  • The Head of School is expected to attend such events as they are scheduled.
  • 220 calendar days to be determined by the employee and supervisor.
  • This is an on-site position.
  • Contact with Others :

  • Extensive interpersonal interaction with peers and outside contacts.
  • Compensation :

    Range : $110,000-$140,000 per year

  • The starting base salary for this position is as shown above. The actual base salary is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
