JOB SUMMARY: At The Children’s Home Network, we take a holistic approach to mentoring. We believe that intervention and prevention are imperative to mitigating the negative impact that trauma has on early childhood development. Through mentorship, we strengthen the support system and create a safe nurturing environment that promotes healing and empowers youth/child to cultivate and develop resilience. Safe, stable and nurturing relationships are one of the most important factors in building resilience, and they are essential to ensure that the kids in our program are able to thrive and reach their full potential. We are seeking a passionate and highly organized Mentor Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for overseeing the matching process between mentors and mentees in our Guiding Stars-Mentor Program. The Mentor Specialist will play a key role in ensuring that mentors and mentees are paired based on their needs, goals, and preferences to foster successful and meaningful relationships. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of mentorship dynamics, and a commitment to supporting the professional and personal growth of participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Matchmaking:
    • Conduct detailed assessments of mentee and mentor profiles to understand goals, skills, interests, and preferences.
    • Utilize data-driven insights to effectively pair mentors and mentees based on compatibility, needs, and program goals.
    • Ensure that the matching process is fair, inclusive, and aligned with the program's values and objectives.
  • Participant Support:
    • Act as a point of contact for both mentors and mentees throughout their relationship, offering guidance and resolving any issues that may arise.
    • Monitor the progress of matched pairs, ensuring that goals are being met and providing ongoing support as necessary.
    • Provide resources and training to both mentors and mentees to help them succeed in their roles.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain open communication with all participants to facilitate smooth onboarding and engagement in the program.
    • Organize and host regular check-ins and surveys to collect feedback from mentors and mentees about the matching process and overall experience.
    • Collaborate with other program staff to ensure seamless execution of program activities and events.
  • Program Evaluation & Improvement:
    • Collect data on match success rates, mentor/mentee satisfaction, and overall program effectiveness.
    • Complete assigned assessments to measure progress.
    • Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to refine the matching process, ensuring continuous program growth.
    • Stay updated on best practices in mentoring and matchmaking to improve the quality of matches.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Maintain accurate records of all mentor/mentee matches, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with program guidelines.
    • Assist in the preparation of reports on match metrics, feedback, and program outcomes for stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) with one year of experience working with children and families.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in mentoring programs, human resources, or program coordination is preferred.
    • Strong background in customer service, conflict resolution, or relationship management.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and manage multiple stakeholders.
    • Empathetic and compassionate, with a keen interest in supporting the growth and development of others.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM tools, and data management systems.
    • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
    • Ability to adapt to changing needs and work in a dynamic environment.
    • A passion for community development and the value of mentorship.

 

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal

driving offense or license suspension.

  • Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required

insurance. Must be insurable under CHN’s current auto insurance policy.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and State criminal background check and sexual predator screening.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.

 

COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

 

Annual Training RequirementsThe following training topics are required annually: Sexual

Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting,

Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect

Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Prevention of Violence in the Workplace, OSHA–

related training, Crisis Prevention, and Program Goals.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and other individuals. 
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of agency’s organizational structure, standard operating procedures, and policies.
  • Knowledge of Department of Children and Families rules and regulations regarding the care of children.
  • Knowledge of child abuse or neglect reporting procedures and methods.
  • Knowledge of intervention and behavior management methods, strategies, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of quality documentation as required by agency standards, rules, and

regulations.

  • Ability to conduct assessments to develop family services, and to provide follow-up services.
  • Ability to work as a multi-disciplinary team member in a positive productive manner.

 

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

 

  • Visual: ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, read printed materials, and make

observations of physical facilities.

  • Hearing: ability to understand and comprehend spoken dialogue in individual and group

settings.

  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

 

  • Full-time position with occasional evening and weekend commitments for events or meetings.
  • Remote work options may be available.
  • Occasional travel may be required for in-person events or meetings.
