Overview

1-2 years Pediatric Physician Assistance experience required upon hire.

The orthopedic complex care program is dedicated to preparing medically complex children for surgery. The Orthopedic Complex Care Physician Assistant performs a generalized health assessment with a major focus on coexisting conditions, medications, and assistive technologies. This role consists of communication with the patients' family via telehealth only. The complex care nurse practitioner collaborates with the family, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and pertinent subspecialists to bridge the care with orthopedic surgery clinicians to optimize the child’s health in advance of the scheduled surgery. This Physician Assistant helps determine the best pathway from perioperative goals to postoperative care management. This APP also coordinates with multiple departments within the hospital to ensure all parties are aware of the upcoming complex care surgeries and patient specific plans. This is an autonomous role that will require the APRN to use critical thinking and requires advance knowledge of the muscular skeleton system and be able to treat children with a variety of health comorbidities, multidisciplinary care coordination is crucial.

Physician Assistants II (PA-II) provide proficient, comprehensive health care services to a defined patient population; obtaining the health history; performing a physical examination, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures; formulating and implementing a plan of care; and participating in patient and family education. Each PA II demonstrates commitment to professional leadership and provides leadership for quality & outcomes improvement activities, clinical research or evidence based practice, and organizational development.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Required and 1-2 years experience 1-2 years Pediatric Physician Assistance experience . Skillful use of the electronic health record (EHR). Preferred in specialty practice and / or pediatrics
  • Licensed Physician Assistant KS
  • Licensed Physician Assistant MO
  • Successful completion of the NCCPA Certification Exam Required Upon Hire
  • PA certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement : Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Physician Assistant (PA) Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
