Compensation : $19.71 - $20.67 per hour

Position Summary :

As part of a highly collaborative Advancement team, the Development Specialist will support the fundraising goals of Children's Museum of Pittsburgh (CMP) by managing research and processes to accelerate the growth of the Museum's individual giving program, providing administrative support across a variety of department activities and functions, and providing stellar customer service to supporters.

Essential Job Duties :

Individual Giving

  • Manage donor / prospect pipeline
  • Actively identify potential new supporters for cultivation
  • Monitor giving patterns and behaviors to suggest prospects for major and planned gifts
  • Organize and run donor / prospect pipeline meetings to support frontline fundraisers and focus efforts
  • Use DonorSearch to conduct prospect research and list screening
  • Prepare prospect and donor documents including briefs, profiles and lists in collaboration with Data Management Specialist
  • Administrative Support

  • Support the creation and delivery of annual fund appeals, seasonal donor newsletters, donor recognition and annual report by managing vendors
  • Produce and deliver donor acknowledgement, stewardship and cultivation communications
  • Maintain department supplies and inventory including print collateral
  • Ensure completeness of database records and electronic files related to donor data
  • Manage department calendar
  • Customer Service

  • Answer general department emails or forward them to team members as appropriate
  • Answer phone calls
  • Greet donors and guests at events and gatherings
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Follow all processes and procedures established by the department
  • Maintain all donor data in accordance with the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Donor Bill of Rights and Children's Museum of Pittsburgh's policies and procedures and adhere to AFP Code of Ethics
  • Demonstrate leadership in working with other colleagues to cultivate creativity and problem-solving, achieve quality and efficiency and promote teamwork in support of CMP goals
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Development and fellow team members, establish annual and long-term goals and metrics to meet revenue goals
  • Participate in advancement-related functions such as copy writing, editing, marketing, design / preparation of print materials, event logistics and post-event follow up based on individual skills and office needs

    Qualifications : Education :

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience :

  • 1-2 years of experience in a non-profit with preference given to experience in a fundraising-related role.
  • Skills :

  • Demonstrated skills in database environments and Microsoft Office suite including Excel. Self-directed learner, motivated team player, curious, creative and persistent.
  • Physical Requirements & Equipment Usage :

  • This position is primarily sedentary in nature. No excessive physical effort required, however, the position may require lifting or moving items with assistance such as for mailings or events. It will be necessary to move about Museum in normal course of administrative and professional activities.

    Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements :

  • Majority in-office work during business hours, with occasional remote flexibility, based on operational needs. Occasional weekend and evening hours required for Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
  • Clearances :

  • FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33) and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are required.
